Column Filters, for HPLC, 0.5 um Stainless Steel filter element and All-PEEK body. Disposable, with end plugs. Black. Cogent Brand. 5/PK.

Additional Info:

The Cogent In‑Line Column Filter (0.5 µm) is a disposable pre‑column protection device designed to safeguard analytical HPLC columns from particulate contamination before it can enter the packed bed. This is the most widely used Cogent column filter, valued for its balance of protection, convenience, and cost efficiency.

Each filter contains a 0.5 µm stainless steel filter element housed in an all‑PEEK body, providing excellent chemical compatibility while maintaining a metal‑free flow path outside the filter element itself. These filters are particularly effective at trapping undissolved sample particulates, pump‑seal debris, and other system‑generated contaminants that commonly damage or shorten column life.

The universal connection design fits all standard analytical HPLC column threads and pilot lengths. Installation requires only hand tightening followed by a quarter‑turn wrench, making replacement fast and repeatable without special tools.

Key Features

Effective Column Protection

  • Prevents particulates from entering the analytical column

  • Extends column lifetime and method stability

  • Protects against pump‑seal shedding and sample debris

0.5 µm Stainless Steel Filter Element

  • Fine particulate retention for analytical HPLC workflows

  • Ideal balance between protection and pressure impact

  • Consistent performance across routine methods

All‑PEEK Disposable Housing

  • Broad chemical compatibility

  • Lightweight, corrosion‑resistant construction

  • Disposable design eliminates cleaning or regeneration

Universal HPLC Connection

  • Fits all analytical HPLC column threads and pilot lengths

  • Simple installation with hand‑tight + quarter‑turn wrenching

  • Easily integrated into existing systems

Usage & Replacement Guidance

When operating with in‑line column filters, system backpressure should be monitored. A gradual pressure increase typically indicates filter loading.

To replace:

  1. Reduce system pressure to atmospheric

  2. Disconnect the in‑line filter

  3. Dispose of the used unit

  4. Install a new filter and resume operation

These devices are also commonly referred to as pre‑column filters due to their placement upstream of the analytical column.

Pressure Rating & Compatibility

  • Maximum pressure: 4,500 psi

  • Compatible with: Analytical HPLC systems

  • Not recommended for: UHPLC pressure ranges

For applications requiring larger pore sizes, a 2.0 µm version is also available.

Typical Applications

  • Routine analytical HPLC

  • Column life extension programs

  • Method development and validation

  • Sample matrices with particulate risk

  • Systems prone to pump‑seal shedding
